History of Freedom and Resistance at the 1839 Parker Academy

This story map discusses the history and culture of the Parker Academy by emphasizing the use of a classical curriculum, spotlighting African American and female students, and remembering the individuals that left the academy and fought in the Civil War. This presentation uses geographical maps to show how the war affected the school as well as a map showing colleges and universities that students attended to continue their education. In addition, this story map details the archaeological work that has been conducted using a site map pinpointing the most significant artifacts that have been recovered.
