One of the first programs the research fellows conducted was at a local high school in Cincinnati. Hughes STEM invited the group to discuss the story of the Parker Academy. On several visits, the fellows shared their research and findings by telling the narratives discovered in the archives.

OAK HILLS HIGH SCHOOL
On May 21, 2018, staff from the Oak Hills High School social studies department visited the Parker Academy site as a professional learning experience. Oak Hills graduate and Research Fellow Chelsea Hauser invited them out for a tour of the 2018 archaeological field school to learn about the excavation process, the history of the school, and its connection with Underground Railroad.

LINCOLN GRANT SCHOLAR HOUSE
In August of 2018, the Lincoln Grant Scholar house held a Back to School Bash. In celebration of the beginning of the new school year, families were invited to explore different cultures around the world. With the help of Dr. Jones, Lyndsey McNabb, and Andrea Shiverdecker, parents and their children were welcomed to experiment and learn about different types of art and art forms. Exploring areas such as ceramics from the American Southwest, body art like the Ta moko tattoos of the Maroi, using stencils to create Fujian barkcloth, and even learning how to decipher and write using the iconography of ancient Maya script.

37th Annual Salt Festival at Big Bone Lick State Historic Site
In October 2018, the Research Fellows performed an educational outreach booth at the 37th Annual Salt Festival at Big Bone Lick State Historic Site. A booth was ran for the entirity of the festival which taught both adults and children about archaeology, creating pottery vessels, and various forms of art. It was an amazing oppertunity to interact with the community, educate, and to share the stories of the research being performed at the Parker Academy NSF REU.
