The Mnemosyne Atlas of Aby warburg:
through the eyes of
the parker academy
In a tribute to the pure genius of the work of famed Art Historian Aby M. Warburg, research fellow Andrea Shiverdecker combined her artistic talents of photography and visual anthropology to create a small, mobile version of the historians famous last unfinished work. The last project of the German Jewish “cultural scientist” Aby M. Warburg (1866-1929), the Mnemosyne Atlas is an unfinished attempt to map the pathways that give art history and cosmography their pathos-laden meanings. By mixing elements of fine art photography, archaeological material culture, historical archiving, historical documents and photography; this mobile art installation was used as a visual experience to bring the story of the Parker Academy to life.
